  3. Three primary components of an authentic church.
  4. Faith- Jesus Presented himself so that they could become eyewitnesses.
    1. Before Acts they were all scattered. Some had doubted him, others had denied him.

    2. They believed that the Kingdom was earthly.  Luke 17:21
    3. They understood that they did not have the power needed, but that there would be a Holy Spirit to empower them
    4. Essence: If you want changes in your life that God hasn’t made yet, don’t become impatient, Instead trust God’s timetable.
  6. Power- That comes from the Holy Spirit
    1. Timetable: They would first receive the Holy Spirit, then they would get power, then they would be witnesses with results.
    2. The power to witness is not showing what we can do/have done for God, but rather showing and telling what God has done for us.
    3. Mathew 28:19-20 must first wait for Acts 1:8!

    6. We cannot be adopted as his children without his Spirit, Romans 8:14-17, Galatians 4:6-7

    10. The Holy Spirit can be experienced by all and he works through us all, 1 Corinthians 12:11, Ephesians 4:4
    11. The circles of influence…

The Consumer Church

Church is seen as a dispenser of religious goods and services. People come to church to be “fed” the Word of God, to have their needs met through programs, and to have professionals teach their children about God.

The Missional Church

A body of believers sent on a mission who gather to worship God, encourage each other to follow Christ, and be taught the Word of God in order to teach others. They do not come to receive the Spirit, but rather bring the Holy Spirit with them wherever they go.
